The Position

1. Work as a key virologist within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists to ensure successful delivery of antiviral drug discovery program; act as a key scientific leader to take a drug discovery project from target validation to drug development and enter-into-human;

2. Serve as an expert and a program leader in molecular virology and antiviral drug discovery for new strategy and novel target discovery; lead a group of scientists to execute research activities related to validation and characterization of novel antiviral targets, assay development, compound screen, mechanism of action studies;

3. Recruit and train junior scientists for design and implement of various in vitro and in vivo virological studies to elucidate drug action mechanism, drug resistance, and effect of drug combination;

4. Prepare standard operational protocols, study reports and high-quality manuscripts.

5. Other related duties as needed and subjected to change, including organizing and maintaining virology laboratory, establishing and managing external collaboration, attending global virology meeting and presenting pRED China to present research activities.

1. Candidate should hold a Ph.D in virology, molecular biology or a related field and have more than eight years of post-degree experience. Industrial experience in antiviral drug discovery at preclinical stage is a must.

2. Candidate should be an expert in an area within virology, be proficienti in designing and conducting experiments involving state of art techniques in biochemistry, Molecuular biology, enzymology, pharmacology and cell-based assays; be capable of understanding chemistry and DMPKS results and collaborating effectively with early development team.

3. Expertise in one of the folowing areas will be a plus: viral replication; immunomodulation against virus; oncology and oncolytic virus.

4. Candidate should communicate and collaborate efficientily with co-workers and train junior scientists, and be able to record and present results at Roche internal and international meetings in both English and Chinese.
