SUMMARY
- Manages the Shanghai Timing Applications Engineering team in line with the goals and objectives set by the Timing business unit. This role requires both managerial leadership as well as direct technical contributions. Successful managers will develop the Timing applications engineering team in China:
- to confidently handle on-site debug of challenging technical issues
- to train China-based field engineers on Silicon Labs Timing tools and products
- to identify and overcome communication challenges in China for the teams in the US
- to confidently interface with the China sales team
- to enhance Silicon Labs reputation in China
Technical contributions require direct interfacing with customers to assist with on-site debug and issue isolation, hands-on lab work in order to respond to technical queries from customers and FAEs, and oral presentation of technical concepts related to Silicon Labs timing products.
Additional oversight of the site will be required to ensure the team has sufficient lab materials, equipment, and space.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in product definition, market studies, and business case studies for new products and provides input on future products or technologies
- Works with other departments within the division, including marketing and design, to promote technical vision of product
- Prioritizes and assigns support to accomplish objectives of applications engineering team
- Works with marketing and sales to ensure that key customer issues are tracked, addressed and resolved
- Ensures applications engineering schedules meet corporate requirements
- Provides hands-on technical leadership and training for applications engineering staff
- Communicates technical information to senior members of the management team
- Contributes to seeing that overall product line collateral is completed and updated (datasheets, application notes, evaluation boards, demo software, etc.)
- Contributes to technical articles
- Trains sales and field application engineers as necessary
- Provides guidance, mentoring and direct supervision to subordinates (i.e., technicians, designers, support personnel)
- Oversees interaction of applications team members with other disciplines (design, marketing, and product and test engineering)
- Conducts annual performance reviews of direct reports
- Recruits, selects, develops, and motivates the best engineers to ensure the efficient operation of the function
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provide guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization
- Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements, may have budget responsibilities

Shanghai remote site manager duties:
- Manage moving equipment and personnel from Shenzhen to Shanghai in 2017-2018.
- Be able to work with a wide variety of individuals: customers, China and US based Silicon Labs personnel, Sales channels, vendors, etc.
- Manage conflict by persuasion and example.
- Subscribes to Silicon Labs values of accountability and doing the right thing. Champions Silicon Labs to customers.
- Manage and encourage a small young team where there is ambiguity and imperfect information.
- Pro-actively report competition, customer issues, and other problems to upper management.
- Maintain flexible work hours and the ability to travel in the event of a customer emergency.
- Can pitch in and work in the lab if necessary.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A technology-related bachelor degree or equivalent training plus 10 years of related experience. An ideal candidate would have 15 years experience overall with at least 5 years experience as a manager.

- Proficiency with circuit-level simulation tools
