Department:The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS)
The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) at NYU Shanghai offers a range of courses for professionals, students, and the general public. The NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai Program Assistant (PA) develops and administers substantive programming for students enrolled in the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai High School Academy. The PA serves as a representative of NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai before and during the program and works in collaboration with the larger NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai team, NYU Shanghai Residential Life, and designated contacts at the School of Professional Studies (SPS) in New York. The PA also serves as mentor to students, providing guidance, leading activities, and ensuring compliance with program rules and guidelines. Additionally, the PA must be able to give direction and delegate responsibility to the student worker designated to assist the person in this role.
The program assistant role requires a large time commitment, including evenings and weekends during the program, both in and out of the office. Specific duties are varied, and applicants are expected to be flexible. Prior to the start of the program, the PA is expected to work in the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai office assisting with the application and enrollment process, as well as developing student programming. Once the Academy begins, the PA will execute evening and/or weekend activities and is expected to be on call, as needed, for students. The PA is a NYU Shanghai University representative and is expected to conduct her or himself as such, positively reflecting NYU Shanghai and NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai at all times. The PA is required to live in the NYU Shanghai residence hall, with the enrolled students, for the duration of the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai High School Academy program. The approximate start date for this position is May 2, 2017 and it is expected to run through July 29, 2017.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Program Coordination and Outreach:
? Communicate application, registration, payment, and programmatic information to students and interested parties.
? Assist with communication and coordination among SPS in New York, NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai, and NYU Shanghai for program planning.
? Assist with application processing.
Program Design:
? Develop a comprehensive activities schedule for the program that can be implemented and scaled. This will be done with the support of the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai team.
? Clearly identify activity outcomes.
? Create student resources (handbook, social media, swag bags, name tags, etc.).
? Coordinate ideas with program faculty.
Orientation:
? Help design and implement the student orientation.
? Assist in the check-in and check-out processes at the beginning and end of each module week.
Program Delivery:
? Work with the program staff to arrange logistics for off-site activities.
? Chaperone and participate in scheduled activities in the evenings and weekends.
? Provide administrative support and assist faculty with classroom needs.
? Maintain regular communications with the NYUSPS Shanghai and New York teams through daily debriefings and other means.
? Perform nightly curfew checks.
? Assist Residential and Student Life in crisis response. Implement safety and liability management protocol.
? Help design and administer program evaluations.
? Provide personalized feedback and guidance to students.
? Troubleshoot issues as they arise with the NYUSPS at NYU Shanghai Program Manager and/or Academic Director.
Qualifications
Required Education
? Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Possess strong English and Mandarin oral and written communication skills.
? Be detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
? Possess leadership skills, patience, and a high level of maturity.
? Have the ability to look for ways to expand and improve upon existing material, while also generating ideas.
? Be able to work independently and to take initiative.
? Possess computer knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
Preferred
? Experience working with Chinese students, preferably high school age.
? Experience in higher education administration or program development.
? Study abroad or work abroad experience.
? Comfort interacting with diverse groups.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
