Job Description

Position Overview:
Duke Kunshan University, a high caliber Sino-US joint venture liberal arts university located in Kunshan, China, seeks to hire a Director of Admissions for its new undergraduate program. The qualified candidate will be an individual with extensive experience (7 years +) working in UG admissions, including managing the application process, candidate evaluation and assessment, enrollment and retention, etc. The right person will be a creative, innovative thinker who ideally will have work experience within a Chinese or joint venture university and possesses a solid understanding of the pool of high school candidates seeking entrance into the People’s Republic of China and overseas universities. The person will be part of a dynamic team of professionals under the direction of the Dean of Enrollment Management and will work closely with both the Director of Global Recruitment and the Manager for Financial Aid. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to the buildup and development of a new joint venture campus in China.

Reports to:
Dean of Enrollment Management

Essential Duties:
- Develop a comprehensive admissions team and organization, design and construct a formal admissions process, establish official admissions criteria, and oversee the daily operation of the admissions group;
- Develop the Duke Kunshan University admissions strategy by contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to the Dean of Enrollment Management; establish admissions targets in line with overall recruitment objectives;
- Evaluate market trends regarding university selection; establish critical metrics; determine customer-service (student applicant) strategies; and manage human and financial resources in an effective and efficient manner;
- Work with team members and related University personnel to select an entering class on an annual basis that reflects the quality and diversity standards of the university;
- Utilizes appropriate technology and software to develop a highly efficient and productive admissions review set of processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of work experience in university admissions in China or abroad;
- Master’s degree in a relevant field for a top tier China or overseas university;
- Familiarity with the Chinese high school situation esp regarding college seniors;
- Understanding of the Gaokao system in China;
- Strong leadership and team management skills;
- Strong speaking and writing skills in English and Chinese;
- Able to work within tight deadlines and schedules.
