SHKYDCH Programme

Mission: The Sir Horace Kadoorie Youth Development Centre for Hospitality (SHKYDCH) is
committed to provide Mainland China’s disadvantaged youth the opportunity to learn a trade
and develop as a whole person so that they may join the growing hospitality industry and lead a
productive and dignified life while positively contributing to society.

Overview: The Sir Horace Kadoorie Youth Development Centre for Hospitality aims to be the
leading philanthropic vocational training programme for the hospitality industry in China. The
programme is looking for a full time dynamic Rooms Division Instructor to teach in their
Vocational Training Programme to disadvantaged youth ages 17-22.

The search committee welcomes inquiries from both experienced Hospitality Instructors as well
as those working in the industry who have a passion for training others. The successful candidate
will teach a full academic load in the Fall and Spring semesters. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach theoretical courses, conduct practical labs related to Rooms Division, and
assume additional duties as assigned. Courses are at the vocational-level.

Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Duties:
? Effectively prepare, teach, grade, and assess the youth’s learning in courses that teach
practical skills in Rooms Division;
? Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse youth population;
? Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes;
? Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi,
supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate;
? Respond to youth inquiries promptly;
? Provide assistance to the youth outside the classroom through posted office hours;
? Incorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom and
laboratory environments;
? Maintain youth records (e.g., grades, attendance) and provide documentation for
incompletes within established Program timelines;
? Oversee student internships for the youth in the Room Division Track at various partner
hotels;
? Complete assigned duties, reports and other required documentation on time;
? Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to
student records and department processes (e.g. grade books, etc.);
? Advance the goals of the Sir Horace Kadoorie Youth Development Center for Hospitality.

Professional Development:
? Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain
current credentials or licensures as a required by program or accreditation;
? Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and
strategies;
? Participate in other appropriate development activities as may be determined by the
administration;
? Maintains professionalism and act with diplomacy at all times while a part of the
SHKYDCH Programme.

Additional Duties which may include, but not limited to:
? Active participation in SHKYDCH activities (i.e: developing new curriculum or student
recruitment);
? Collaborate with faculty and staff from other schools/departments to promote
communication, coordinate schedules, and support of youth success;
? Support collegiality by actively participating in the professional development of new and
veteran faculty (i.e mentoring, peer observations);
? Other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications
? Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university of recognized standing in the travel/
hospitality industry
? Minimum of 5 years successful professional experience in hospitality in Rooms Division
? Bilingual in Mandarin and English
? Excellent Communication Skills
? Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues is essential
