SOM Shanghai is currently seeking a Senior Architect, with China First Class Architect license and minimum ten years of professional work experience. The Senior Architect is expected to lead teams in the Architectural Studio in Shanghai, reporting directly to the Studio Head and SOM China Director. The Senior Architect will be responsible to lead and oversee multiple large-scale projects concurrently. This individual should be experienced in both design and technical solutions, able to document concept design, schematic design, design development and construction document as well as have construction administration experience in China. Successful candidates shall have the ability to manage design work plan adhering to the agreed project schedule, scope and deliverables required by the project client. The successful candidates possess assertive leadership skills to lead large teams including a diverse group of consultants.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Define the design direction to achieve SOM standard. Oversee and control the quality of project deliverables in compliance with SOM standard practice, Chinese government building codes, client criteria and procedures.
2. Develop daily work plan and assign tasks to team individuals. Monitor work progress in adherence to schedule and required deliverables.
3. Effectively and efficiently manage multiple complex projects with multiple clients, consultants and deadlines at the same time.
4. Provide liaison and coordination in China representing SOM's US teams to clients, local design institutes (LDI), building authorities and contractors. Participate in expert review process, lead project related meetings and make required presentations to clients, consultants, LDI and public agencies.
5. Provide expert advice to SOM team members in China and the US on requirements and interpretation of Chinese design practices, documentations, regulations, codes and standards.
Qualifications and Skill set:
1. Professional degree or Master degree in Architecture.
2. Chinese First Class licensed architect.
3. 10 - 15 years professional experience in architectural design practice. Minimum 4 years of relevant experiences with international firms.
4. 10 - 15 years of proven experience in local design institutes in China. Solid experience in large-scale development which must encompass all aspects of design process and documentation, including concept design, schematic design, design development, construction document, construction administration, and building approval submission processes.
5. Expertise in materials, construction processes and building systems. Professional experience in technical coordination and site supervision. Understanding of sustainable design; LEED accreditation is preferred.
6. Thorough knowledge of Chinese building codes and proven experiences in statutory approval procedures.
7. Leadership ability to effectively produce results from teams, consultants and LDI.
8. Excellent bilingual communication and presentation skills in both Mandarin and English.
9. Required knowledge of the following software: AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketchup, Power Point, Excel, Rhino, Revit, Illustrator, 3D Max, V-ray.
