DESCRIPTION
The “career” level process engineer is responsible for direct on-site support to Asia Region Tooling Vendors with allocation of work sourced from GME ME Body Die Center. This project management and engineering position includes providing support to the Vendor(s) upon project start and continues through meeting all deliverables to the GME functions (Program Team, Body, Press and Engineering). This individual will be responsible to ensure the developed manufacturing process(es), applicable to equipment and tooling, sequence and flow of operations, meet the effective utilization of personnel, material, and machines within the facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in locations designated by GME ME Body Die Center. This individual is expected to demonstrate considerable personal initiative and motivation, will coordinate successful implementation of required project work with the Vendor, will possess high level understanding of and the ability to apply all appropriate standards, demonstrating compliance to achieve quality, timing and cost requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
? Manufacturing process standards compliance
? Confirm effectiveness of sequence of operations
? Human factors consideration
? Efficient material utilization
? Engineering, design, construction, tryout, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts
? Provide onsite technical direction and oversight of work phases related to part, dies and Checking Fixture, including but not limited to:
o Program SOR and/or SOW deliverables
o Vendor Kickoff or project start
o Engineering
o Design
o Construction
o Tryout
o Material required to body shop(s) and/or engineering
o Project timing performance
o Quality Performance and data submittal
o Audit, Inspection and Buy Off processes
o Data and file management requirements
o Ensure all designs and physical tools meet safety and/or technical standards
? Maintain accurate documentation of project status and issues
? Facilitate weekly project review meeting with China vendors
? Facilitate weekly project review meeting with GME ME Body Die Center Execution Manager, Program Die Lead, Integration Engineers
? Develop work plans to meet quality or timing requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
? Meet all GM Safety requirements during the course of employment
? Clear communication of issues using effective English oral, written and technical skills
? Possess a strong technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
? Possess a strong knowledge and ability to implement lean manufacturing principles
? Demonstrate high level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with vendors, team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
? Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and difficult projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
? Demonstrate initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
? Proven ability in project management skills
? Must comply with standardized work requirements
? Must be willing to travel domestically or internationally
? Must be willing to work weekends or holiday overtime as required
DESIRED SKILLS
? Strong technical knowledge in the field sheet metal stamping
? Ability to review and analyze the development die process layouts and or die designs
? Ability to understand Computer Aided Design systems (Unigraphics)
? Skilled or experience in understanding formability analysis (FEA)
? Understanding of material properties (sheet metal or aluminum)
? Understanding of auto body design concepts
? Knowledgeable in die construction and die tryout practices
? Comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Design and Tolerance applications
? Working knowledge of CMM or equivalent scanning equipment
? Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Writing, Approval and Revision Process
