  • Position Purpose
  • The purpose of this position is to provide heat treat and material expertise and guidance on the development and manufacture of Ford Chassis in-house designed steering components.

    Important aspects of the position.

  • Strong understanding of industry best practices used in control of carburization and induction heat treat process.

  • Strong metallurgical background in steel alloys with working knowledge of SAE, ASTM and Chinese Material specs.

  • Familiarity with shot peen, condersol and induction annealing processes.

  • Ability to design zero escape point, robust heat treat process for automotive safety critical chassis components.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse global team environment, and provide effective technical communication with team members in both Chinese and English language.

  • Data driven approach to analytical problem solving, and process robustness.

  • Key Roles and Responsibilities of Position

  • Dictate heat treat manufacturing processes that meet and EXCEED CQI-9 standards. Including traceability, interlocks to ensure no missed/skipped operations, redundancy of key equipment/processes and escape point control. Including Atmosphere control and redundant inspection strategy, furnace temperature, temper delay, temper temp, temper time, quench delay, quench agitation, quench temp, quench time, quench level, wash temp, wash concentration, and others.

  • Collaborate with component supplier manufacturing engineering to implement processes for manufacture of Ford designed recirculating ball steering gear components.

  • Develop heat treat specifications to insure proper process controls are documented and followed. This must include PLC controllers to interlock all process control parameters with alarms that are tied to and control “ok to ship”. Bar coding is to be integrated to load process parameters and to monitor part flow through the process as well as to generate the shipping invoice.

  • Identify and resolve issues during the heat treat process line design phase, to achieve acceptable quality, safety, cost, and capacity.

  • Lead APQP, PFMEA, Control plan, operator work instructions, PM plans and spare parts management.

  • Use lessons learned to drive continuous improvement

  • Work with/at Equipment Builders to specify equipment design/layout and demonstrate line capability, gage R&R, and robustness.

  • Own heat treat line deliverables

  • Requirements

  • Education Qualification:Bachelor degree in Engineering, Materials or similar

  • No. of Years of Experience:5 years minimum

  • Professional Exposure:Prior experience with design of heat treat processes and/or heat treat process equipment. PPAP and management of ongoing production heat treat process. Solid understanding of carburization and induction heat treat methods.

  • Preferred previous experiences:Experience with an OE supplier to a global automotive manufacturer preferred. Heat treat experience with automotive chassis or powertrain components preferred.
