General Summary

Primary function is to provide guidance and oversight of all offshore related classification, certification, and statutory survey work worldwide.


This may be an intermediate-level position for the individual, under the supervision and guidance of experienced personnel. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the individual will develop a thorough understanding of the Offshore Survey Department's relationship to field operations, policies, methods, and procedures.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities (PDR)

I.Main assignment is to assist the Survey Manager - Offshore in assuring the quality and consistency of all Offshore Survey services or work worldwide is in compliance with applicable ABS Rules, Guides, and Statutory requirements.

II.Stays up-to-date with all ABS Rules, Guides, and Statutory requirements, and provides input for survey-related Rule changes, as directed by the Survey Manager - Offshore.

III.Assists in developing guidance to worldwide survey staff on implementation and application of all ABS Rules, Guides, and Statutory requirements, as directed.

IV.Assists in developing offshore survey-related procedures.

V.Carries out Monthly Report Review as may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

1.A degree or recognized equivalent in appropriate technical discipline is preferred; should have previous marine industry experience, appropriate certification, and/or licenses in area of specialization.

As a minimum, candidates for this position should possess the following:

· A degree or equivalent from an institution recognized within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (i.e., a degree or equivalent -- a minimum two year program, depending on local education system); or

· Relevant qualifications from a suitable marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certified ship officer; and

· Proficiency in the English language commensurate with their future work.

· Having worked in an offshore shipyard, involving hull inspection and/or testing/commissioning of offshore unit’s systems

· Holding offshore engineering degree

· Working experience on offshore units

2. Must possess good working knowledge of classification, statutory survey, and marine business.

3. The knowledge and ability to communicate, orally and in writing, complex and unique survey issues to personnel in related technical fields.

4. The management skills to organize, plan, and direct the work activities of other professional and technical employees.

5. The human relations skills necessary to organize, direct, and motivate senior-level professionals and managers. These skills are also necessary to develop strong client relationships at the highest levels.
