Job Summary:
The Project Engineer will ensure that RED's specifications are communicated clearly to Burton's suppliers and will oversee the industrialization of the products from prototypes through manufacturing of finished product. This position will assist suppliers by driving their development and production timelines through daily interaction in order to ensure that they can deliver high quality helmet's in accordance with RED's delivery requirements. In addition, they will regularly identify risk exposure related to materials, processes, schedule, sub-suppliers, etc. and drive action plans by coordinating with factory personnel and RED staff in order to mitigate the associated risk.
Responsibility: (Essential Functions)
Industrialization and Product Development
- Work closely with RED and its Suppliers to ensure that product development activities are completed on schedule and that desired outcomes are achieved.
- Drive development projects at Supplier in order to meet RED's development and production timelines.
- Provide manufacturing assistance to factories to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement best practices.
- Promptly communicate any issues that affect quality, development, production, or delivery schedules appropriate RED team members.
- Monitor and report on the status of new tooling and revisions, keeping development on schedule.
- Monitor production schedules at each factory to ensure the production schedules are met.
- Utilize specific management and tracking tools instituted by the Business Unit Director and/or Manufacturing Engineer in order to manage, track, and record activities at the supplier. (Goal of on-time sample delivery, on-time production start-up, and timely use of Milestone tracker, ECR and Manufacturing Approval Tracker tools.)
- Provide manufacturing expertise to assist suppliers exceed RED's specifications.
- Work with suppliers and RED's manufacturing engineers to identify, source, and validate new manufacturing processes, materials, finishing techniques, and suppliers targeting higher quality, better performance, increased manufacturing flexibility, improved cosmetics, shorter lead times, and lower costs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Quality
- Assist in monitoring RED's quality reports to ensure that RED's helmet suppliers are performing QA testing in accordance with the procedures and at the frequencies specified in Burton's Quality Specifications.
- Track any safety or function quality issues or any issues that could adversely affect delivery schedules.
- Ensure that appropriate actions are taken when safety or function related non-conformities are identified including the use of Burton's CPAR and Specification Deviation reports.
- Periodically visit and conduct audits of the quality system, manufacturing facility, and assembly lines at each of RED's helmet suppliers.
Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing/Engineering field
- 5 years of manufacturing experience( project engineer, project management, manufacturing engineer, development)
- Injection molding and engineering polymers experience
- Experience with assembled products and mechanical assemblies.
- Required some overnight travel.
- Sports interests, experience and general knowledge of or participation in the board sports industry is plus.
- Good command of MS office (outlook, excel, etc.)
- Good command of both English and Mandarin with reading, writing and speaking. Ability to communicate fluently in English.
- Initiative, good problem solving ability, cooperation and teamwork spirit.
