职位描述

Purpose of role

The purpose of the role is to assist in the health and fitness delivery and administration of the Sport Department by providing support and advice to staff/students efficiently and to a high standard.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree;

  • CET 6 equivalent or above in English;

  • Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Chinese, in particular with anatomical and physiological terminology;

  • Excellent customer service skills;

  • Good IT skills;

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills;

  • Analysis and problem solving capability;

  • Planning and organisational skills;

  • Knowledge of the fitness industry;

  • Knowledge of health and safety within a fitness environment;

  • Experience of teaching a range of exercise classes;

  • Experience of working in a Gym or Fitness Centre delivering inductions and fitness programmes/personal training;

  • Experience of working/responding independently and dealing with unforeseen problems and circumstances;

  • Ability to strike up rapport and interact with members, regardless of age, gender and physical ability;

  • Ability to work within a team;

  • A strong ability to work using one’s own initiative;

  • Highly motivated and driven;

  • Operating knowledge of fitness services and processes that would be required to provide advice and guidance to customers;

  • Hold an internationally recognised fitness instructor qualification and/or an internationally recognised personal training qualification;

  • A willingness to work evenings and weekends as the role demands.

Desirable

  • Ability to use a variety of social media platforms;

  • Good knowledge of basic fitness equipment maintenance;

  • Experience of Sports Management Software;

  • Knowledge of Performance Sport Software;

  • Experience in organising fitness events or competitions;

  • Hold one or more class instructor-based qualifications;

  • Willing to undertake relevant training as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Planning & Organising

  • Research, plan and devise the content for personal training programmes that are suited to individual clients’ needs.

  • Plan the content for fitness class delivery as per level of qualification/certification.

  • To assist with the planning and organising of fitness and wellbeing events, workshops, clinics, and challenges for students and staff in order to promote engagement and active health.

  • To make recommendations on the use of fitness equipment in order to promote user engagement across the health and fitness programme.

  • Ensure maintenance of the gym and fitness equipment, and research and procure new equipment as appropriate.


Liaison

  • To ensure the security of the gym, studios and stores by working with the Operations Team and working in accordance with the department’s relevant procedures.

  • To attend team and departmental meetings as required.

  • Communicate and build working relationships with key contacts from other school/departmental/work units as well as external bodies, to support the growth of the health and fitness programme.

  • Advise on pricing and purchasing of equipment and software, following liaison with suppliers.

  • Attend meetings, as requested by manager, to support the health and fitness programme and to report back on main discussion points.

Customer/Service Support

  • To perform user gym inductions and explain and demonstrate the need for correct training techniques and practices.

  • To write and deliver personal fitness programmes for Personal Training clients by taking into consideration their aims and objectives, and to review such programmes as the clients require.

  • To deliver a range of health and fitness classes, contributing to the development of new activities to keep the programme up to date with the needs and interests of students and staff as per industry trends.

  • To interact and help members whilst on shift in the gym, ensuring safe and effective practice and support.

  • To provide up to date, knowledge-based guidance and advice to members.

  • To help support with the training of our representative university athletes, as guided by the Health & Fitness Manager.

Continuous Improvement

  • To take a proactive role in increasing engagement, enjoyment and improvement of users within the health and fitness programme.

  • To assist in programme promotion through social media and the Sports Management System.

  • Advise on and propose changes in relation to procedures, processes and systems to improve operational efficiency and quality of service.

  • Keep skills up-to-date and develop depth or breadth of knowledge in a particular area through learning from more senior/experienced colleagues, exposure to a range of activities, and/or formal training/professional qualification.

Analysis, Reporting & Documentation

  • To efficiently utilise the Sports Management System for class scheduling, bookings and events, as well as data reporting.

  • To accept, record and process payment for activities and Personal Training in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

  • To provide attendance and qualitative reports on class engagement and customers’ progress in relation to inductions and personal training.

  • To conduct fitness equipment inventories and asset management checks on a regular basis.

  • To undertake regular maintenance and service checks of the gym facility equipment, reporting faults with the Operations Team, and liaising where required with the supplier to ensure adequate services and repairs are carried out.

  • Analyse fitness data, interpreting and reporting patterns, trends, and highlighting areas for further development.

People Management

  • To provide first aid where required and ensure the reporting of incidents and inappropriate behaviour is carried out in accordance with the department and University’s policies.

  • Show sensitivity and consideration to customer needs and feelings, which may include dealing with weight, body image and psychological issues.

  • Support and guide student interns to help develop their teaching ability and understanding of effective delivery.

Other

  • To timely and efficiently setup and put away gym and class equipment.

  • To assist with the delivery of departmental and University wide events, for example, Freshers’ Fair, Open Days and other recruitment or engagement activities, offering support to students and the wider community and assisting delivery where required.

  • Work on shift rotation alongside other fitness staff, and support other sub-teams where necessary.

  • To maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times within the gym and studios, supporting the contracted cleaners’ daily schedule.

  • To exhibit a flexible approach to work, providing additional cover in cases of sickness, annual leave or special events.

  • To undertake other duties and activities that may be necessary from time to time in accordance with the needs of the department.

  • Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate.

  • Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness.

  • To wear the official staff sports uniform provided.
