Job Purpose: | POD process technologist will work as part of the SMPO/POD technology team. This team has accountabilities of improving the SMPO and POD plant’s performance and maintaining competitive advantage of the SMPO and POD plant of CSPC in terms of process safety, reliability, costs and environmental performances. Due to construction of the 2nd SMPO plant and expansion of POD the support group is expanding. |
Job Dimensions: | Dimensions - POD capacity: 170 KTA polyols; 60 KTA MPG, expanding to 660 kt/a with 3 POD units. - POD plant is fully integrated in the site utilities system; - Develop, validates and maintains variable cost and energy consumption models of the POD plant; - Support the plant Manager for the budget control of plant changes and projects. Key relationships: - Builds constructive working relationships with POD operation team; - Seeks and values diverse input from different discipline engineers; - Participates / Leads taskforce, multi-disciplinary teams for specific projects. Decisions made: - Trouble shooting; - Technical proposal and optimization for improvement, including operation, MOC and projects; - Incident root cause analysis and recommendation. |
Principal Accountabilities: | 1. Define and engineer improvements (MOC and project) in new and existing processes, equipment and systems, including new KOH line modification and new POD project. ? Determine the economics of the proposal. ? Ensure adherence to plant changes / projects budget, timing, standards and project documentation. ? Contribute to the preparatory work of technical studies (HAZOP, HEMP, IPF and etc); participate in technical audits and study teams to provide process and engineering input ? Ensure technical assurance of the proposed changes (stage gate / challenge sessions) ? Review relevant documents/drawing such as PFS,PEFS, IPFN,CED, PCN, PSM and etc during project execution phase. ? Provide engineering input to develop guidelines for operation within the design envelop of the process and equipment. ? Participate to the inspection of column/vessel internals installation quality. ? Advise the Commissioning Team (chemical cleaning, catalyst loading, integrated SU ramping scenario etc...). ? Guide and advise new facility operation. ? Prepare and carry out the acceptance test runs. ? Involve in the Post Implementation Review (PIR) of the modified technology and share learning. 2. Provides technology support to the plant teams. Proactive monitoring of the process units and determines the effects of process deviations and equipment performance from stated design conditions on the equipment reliability and develops/proposes corrective actions. Monitoring of catalyst performance. Captures and reports process data through regular monitoring and shares/reviews these data with the integrated plant teams. 3. Supports the plant engineers / operators for complex “troubleshooting” activities, to ensure and improve process integrity, and plant reliability. Lead multi-disciplinary troubleshooting teams. 4. Initiates and coordinates proposals for technology development programs and contributes to the advancement of new technologies in the processes. 5. Focal point for complex Laboratory / Product Quality issues. 6. Develops, validates and maintains variable cost models of the plants. Provides advise on unit optimisation. 7. Supports the Unit Managers for the prioritisation and budget control of plant changes and projects (safety, operability and low cost first, then profitability). 8. Demonstrate a strong capability to analyse issues and identifying the best solutions for complex problems. 9. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills in working together with other technologists and staff in MFT and across the site, with well-developed influencing skills for peers and management. 10. Train and teach, ensuring that knowledge is passed on and competencies developed in the unit teams. |
Qualifications: | 1. Educational background: Have thorough chemical engineering / process technology knowledge at an academic level, achieved either by formal education, or by extensive on-the-job-learning and training. This includes mathematics, thermodynamics, (organic) chemistry, heat and mass transfer (heat transfer equipment), reaction engineering, separation technology, fluid dynamics (pressure surge, hammering, vibration analysis) and materials of construction. 2. Work experience: Has thorough knowledge of POD. 3. Language proficiency: English level CET>6 or equivalent. 4. PC skills: IT literate, Proficient in Excel. Basic knowledge of flowsheeting (Aspen+, Pro2) and ODS. |
Other Information: | Special challenges to assist in the expansion project for the new POD facilities, which is relatively complex as it involves various project teams and different parties for new-build and modification of the existing POD units whilst production continues. |

CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Company (CSPC) Limited has been established as a Chinese Foreign Equity Joint Venture Company on 28 December 2000. It has built and now operates a USD4.1 billion world-scale petrochemicals complex in Daya Bay, Huizhou, Guangdong. It is one of the largest capital investments for a Sino-foreign joint venture project to date in the People’s Republic of China. In 2016 agreement was reached between the partners to expand CSPC more than doubling the production capacity with the addition of a 1.2 Million Ton/Year Ethylene per year creating an additional 4.0 Million Tons/Year of petrochemical products (C2).
The partners are Shell Nanhai B.V., a member of the Royal Dutch Shell, with a 50 per cent stake, and CNOOC Petrochemicals Investment Company Limited (CPIL), also with 50 per cent. CPIL is owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) (90%) and Guangdong Guangye Investment Group Company Limited (10%).
The CSPC petrochemicals complex incorporates the world’s most advanced technologies and utilizes modern management systems and international standards in the design, construction and operation of the complex. Its adoption of 13 patents through international bidding ensures it operates on the cutting edge of technology. The majority of its process units are world-scale. Additionally CSPC applies the principles of sustainable development throughout the design, construction and operation of the complex, demonstrating its strong commitment to the community and the environment.
