JOB SUMMARY:
The Advance Materials and Manufacturing team is responsible for researching and exploring; materials, suppliers and manufacturing processes to support Beats’ future products. The Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Engineer – Metals and Processing, will support the Product Development department with search, identification, assessment, and selection of new materials, processes, and suppliers of Metals and Processing technology. He/she will assist with cost modeling and setting cost targets. This role will require active collaboration across Product Management, Industrial Design, Engineering, and Asian based suppliers.

This role would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable in a casual, but fast paced, environment. He/she must live or be willing to relocate to Shenzhen, China, and able to support travel within Asia and globally as needed. He/she must possess the necessary skills for the position and have strong written and verbal communication abilities. This position reports to the Director of Advanced Materials and Manufacturing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Find and explore materials, suppliers and manufacturing processes to support future products.
? Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to lead supplier qualification and ensure the best in class candidates are considered.
? Research/explore materials, processes and technologies that will differentiate Beats’ products, while reducing cost and increasing quality/reliability.
? Provide input to Engineering/Product Management teams on component and material selection/costs.
? Be an expert in Metals and Processing, interface at conferences and tradeshows to understand where the technology will be in the future.
? Track market/contract pricing and provide input to Design and Product Management teams.
? Assist Product Management in establishing cost targets and in tradeoff evaluation.
? Work with internal and external partners to conduct DfM (Design for Manufacturing), DfC (Design for Cost) analysis.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
? Proven track record in Metals and Processing discipline, should cost modeling, product teardown analysis, preferably in the consumer electronics market, working with Asian based manufacturers
? Expertise in Aluminum, Titanium, Stainless, Die Casting, Liquid Metal Injection, Forging, etc.
? Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, in a fully outsourced supply chain model; setting priorities, identifying and addressing problems, and meeting deadlines
? Previous experience in a variety of manufacturing processes
? Broad and in-depth knowledge of good manufacturing practices and industry standards
? Ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks
? Excellent problem solving & analytical skills
? Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with an ability to overcome language and cultural barriers
? Must be willing to travel as required to support supplier search, assessment and support activities.
? Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)
? Experience in negotiations with suppliers and in financial analysis desired.
? Must be fluent (speak, read and write) in English. Local languages a plus.
? Experience with Apple Computers/Mac OS a plus.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
? Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Business, Engineering, Industrial Technology or other relevant field of study (or equivalent experience.)
? Minimum 5-7 years experience in supplier development, process development or related discipline
