The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Specialist in the new Digital Operations Center satellite site located in Shanghai, China. The Digital Operations Center is a critical component in enabling Dow's Digital Strategy and in accelerating the Manufacturing 4.0 Program. The new satellite center will include a blend of resources from Operations, Manufacturing & Engineering, I/S and will collaborate closely with other key functions. The extended team, will initially focus on robotics, artificial intelligence and cross reality to digitalize Dow’s operations. This multidisciplinary team will facilitate rapid prototyping of new capabilities to enhance the competitive position of Dow's manufacturing and site facilities.

This center will have an entrepreneurial mindset powered by cross-industry experience, employee diversity, and multiple disciplines – business process optimization, user experience design, agile methodologies, analytics, mobile applications, and emerging IT innovation. The AI Specialist will support the Domain leads in identifying and applying the continuum of AI technologies and techniques to a wide range of manufacturing challenges. This role will coordinate AI efforts across a diverse range of value chain stakeholders including customers, businesses, functions, suppliers and partners to develop and showcase available AI solutions, explore potential new solutions and provide training on existing capabilities. He/she must be an excellent communicator, engaging and facilitating productive interaction with customers, business and operations/manufacturing personnel. This role will be critical in increasing Dow overall education, awareness of Artificial Intelligence capabilities/technologies and external benchmarking on the current state of the market both in and outside of the chemical industry.

This role will be focused on connecting business and function value capture opportunities to AI capabilities, facilitating and driving project success, partnering with the business and function to credibly deliver AI solutions with measurable value capture for Dow, and leveraging successes to other similar business and function opportunities. This role requires business acumen, project discipline, and excellent relationships – delivering on organizational goals while managing partner expectations of what technologies on the AI continuum can deliver. This is a key role for helping accelerate the use and value capture of AI at Dow.

The main areas of responsibility for this position are:

· Technical Competency: Ability to understand the capabilities and maturity of technologies on the AI continuum and where/when/how to apply those to operations / continuous manufacturing problems – this role will provide the “art” of AI and pair with the Domain leads who will bring the technical “science” of AI

· Consultation: Connect business, function and AI capabilities to identify use cases for AI that drive automation and value across Dow, leading to a competitive advantage for Dow’s Operations

· Account & Relationship Management – Engage with business and function leadership and existing relationship channels to cultivate relationships and develop a strong value-based pipeline of business-driven AI projects.

o Consult with DSS leads to identify opportunities to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation of AI based solutions

· Business Acumen and Value Delivery -- Validate business and function opportunities quickly and fail projects at stage-gates if the value/technical feasibility is not there

· Project Management -- Drive project success so value is captured for Dow

· Financial Measurement and Credibility -- Agree to credible, measurable KPI’s on AI projects to ensure value is delivered and sustained

· Owner Mindset -- Leverage projects to other businesses and functions

· Leverage AI Transfer Learning techniques to create a cycle of ever-increasing speed to adoption & impact driving a competitive advantage across Dow

• Provide input during investment planning cycles (modules, training, travel, etc)

• Full lifecycle management and delivery of AI products and services leading to Dow’s value growth

• Work with data engineers and system architects to develop scalable data pipelines to train, deploy, and monitor production AI models.

• Provide overall expertise across the portfolio of AI capabilities available to users

• Partner, liaison and trusted adviser on AI for the Functions managing data, reporting, and analytics

• Promote, implement and foster adoption of the AI portfolio to the Business and Functions

Required Qualifications:

· A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

· A Master's degree in a related field (mathematics, machine learning, etc…)

· Experience delivering and managing AI in our work process and services

· Understanding of AI and ML techniques and methods, as well how to deploy models into production environments

· Skills including but not limited to: Python, R, HTML/CSS/JAVASCRIPT/NODEJS, Hadoop, Spark, Kubernetes, GitHub, SAS, PowerBI, Deep Learning frameworks, Image Classification

· Experience with Natural Language Processing ()

· Experience with Computer Vision

· Experience with Predictions/Insights/Recommendations

· Experience working within cloud environments

Other Critical Skills

· Ability to educate stakeholders on the strategic use of AI

· Ability to take independent actions and influence events to achieve results.

· Proactive in identifying opportunities for the application of AI

· Ability to engage the team to apply AI products and services to satisfy (new) customer needs

· Previous client/customer-facing role experience preferred

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written with a diverse group of clients across all layers of the organization

· Ability to interact with external vendors and key strategic outsourcing partners

· Ability to interact internally with key leadership across all businesses and functions.

· Ability to elevate the total team by proactively sharing knowledge and experience, leveraging collaboration tools

Scope
The expectation of this role is that the individual will be responsible for delivering value globally across the Dow Chemical company. This includes leading efforts in the AI space across various businesses and functions. Having expertise within multiple work process disciplines and/or business units will be highly desirable. It is also expected that the individual will travel up to 10% or as much as necessary to meet the needs of the organization.
