Principal Accountabilities
1. Oversee and direct pattern repair operations, review daily requirements and assign work projects to insure pattern equipment is within specification and available to meet production schedules..
2. Monitor the installation of rigging and gating to reduce processing time.
3. Maintain computer records of pattern equipment inventory to allow rapid response to sales inquiries of equipment status. While administering the pattern storage functions to insure pattern equipment is maintained and available when needed. Including written job history files for all in house pattern work.
4. Work with marketing to supply estimated pattern costs/configurations for new work.
5. Interact closely with the marketing and drafting & design departments to create foundry friendly castings that will suit the customer’s needs.
6. Interact closely with pattern vendors to purchase patterns and promote competitive pricing and delivery. Supply vendors with layouts and detailed instructions to maximize foundry options on new work including construction methods, gauge and core requirements.
7. Respond to pattern vendors to solve problems they encounter during pattern operations.
8. Maintain accurate records of purchased patterns and engineering changes supplied vendors.
9. Assist marketing and the drafting & design departments with the design and development of new products and initiate cost saving improvements for the department.
10. Verify pattern compliance to customer specifications to assure quality castings which are dimensionally correct and minimize scrap castings.
11. Schedule and oversee the completion of process control work orders to insure constant improvement and meet production schedules.
12. Maintain inventories to ensure that adequate supplies are available to meet production requirements.
13. Contact Production Supervisors, Quality Assurance staff and any staff member as required to correct process problems.
14. Adhere to ISO standards, including the Quality Statement and Quality Control Procedures Manual. Initiate and maintain calibration standards for all measuring tools used in the pattern repair and casting lay out.
15. Function within the constraints of budget and safety objectives while insuring maximum quality and workmanship on pattern equipment.

Safety
1. Monitor workforce activities to control the number of recordable doctor cases and lost time injuries.
2. Conduct safety meetings and safety contacts as needed.
3. Investigate and report on all near misses and injuries and develop a corrective action plan when necessary.
4. Conduct annual review of “Right-To-Know” material.
5. Maintain showcase housekeeping.

Position Qualifications
1. The Pattern Shop Supervisor should have an engineering degree or equivalent pattern making experience.
2. A B.A. or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is desirable. A trade school of one to two years in pattern making or the equivalent of pattern experience and supervision in the foundry or related industry may be substituted for the four year degree.
3. The incumbent should be literate in reading, writing and math skills.
4. The Pattern Shop Supervisor position requires excellent communications skills and the ability to establish and accomplish goals through interaction of many other plant and outside personnel.
5. Must be able to follow and design complex blue prints for patterns, core boxes, gauges, templates, and other items used in the pattern process.
6. The candidate must be able to compute in metric and standard measurements using a calculator.
7. Cad/Cam software knowledge and skill is a plus.
8. The Pattern Shop Supervisor should be able to lay out patterns on pattern boards; determine pattern board sizes; calculate the demand for risers, pouring entrance, runner bars & end gates, and determine the most effective parting line to recommend either the no-bake or floor molding process.
