JOB DESCRIPTION
Role Description / Working Relationships
The Learning Support Specialist works closely with senior management and colleagues in the strategic development of the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy and oversees the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEN pupil achievement.
1. Areas of responsibility and key tasks:
Strategic Direction and Development of SEN Provision in the School (with the support of, and under the direction of the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team)
? Exercise a key role in assisting the school administration with the strategic development of SEN provisions and policies;
? Support all staff to understand the needs of SEN students and to ensure that objectives to develop SEN are reflected in the school development plan;
? Monitor progress, objectives and targets for SEN students by assessing teacher’s plans, evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and learning through work analysis and then using analyses to guide future improvements;
? Analyze and interpret relevant data and advise school administration on the level of resources required to maximize student achievement;
? Collaborate with staff, parents and external agencies to co-ordinate and provide maximum student support and ensure continuity of provision.
2. Teaching and Learning
? Support, identify and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with SEN;
? Work with administrators and staff to develop effective strategies for successful student progress by:
- Assessing individual student needs
- Monitoring student achievement and progress
- Goal setting and communicating plans, including writing and updating IEPs, and working with teachers to identify teaching and differentiation strategies,
- Developing and maintaining a recording system to monitor student progress
? Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform best practice;
? Undertake day-to-day coordination of SEN student provisions through close liaison with teachers, parents and external agencies;
? Work with administration, teachers, grade level coordinators, and advisors to ensure all student learning is of equal importance and that there are realistic expectations of each student;
? Consider and suggest a range of teaching strategies and equipment that could be utilized for student support and success.
2. Leading and managing:
? Provide professional guidance to teachers to secure best practice teaching for SEN pupils, through both written guidance and meetings;
? Contribute to the performance management process of SEN teachers;
? Advise on and contribute to the professional development of staff;
? Provide regular information to teachers and school administration on the evaluation of SEN provisions.
3. Effective deployment of staff and resources
? Advise the school administration of priorities for expenditure, the deployment of staff and the utilization of resources to maximize efficiency;
? Maintain and develop resources, coordinate their use and monitor the effectiveness in meeting Keystone Academy’s objectives of SEN policies.
4. Other professional requirements
? Attend annual reviews and related meetings regarding SEN students. T his may involve reviewing statements of special educational needs;
? Posses SEN recognized certification
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful applicant will have the following skills and abilities, knowledge, and experience:
1. Personal Skills and Abilities
? Excellent interpersonal and communications skills;
? An understanding and practical knowledge of contemporary teaching, learning theories and practice;
? Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, teachers and parents;
? Ability to communicate both orally and in writing;
? Ability to manage change;
? Ability to communicate competently in Chinese and English.
? Prefer a candidate with at least two years working experience in an International School setting desired.
2. Knowledge
? Ability to collaboratively plan with administrators and teachers;
? Proficiency in professional development and contemporary leadership theory;
? Expertise in the integration and use of ICT as a teaching and learning tool;
? Ability to plan and structure individualized programs to meet the learning needs of each student.
3. Education and Experience
? Bachelor’s Degree or above;
