Technical Manager, China - Atmospheric Modelling Team

Beijing LIBOVITO Environmental Technology Co. Ltd. is a recently established environmental modelling company (www.libovito.com). One of the aims of the company is to implement European-made air quality modelling tools in regions and cities in China. These tools are supplied by the European owner, VITO a large scientific research company based in Flanders, Belgium (www.vito.be). Due to it’s recent growth, LIBOVITO are looking for a Technical Manager to oversee the Chinese technical team based in Beijing.

The Technical Manager (TM) will be responsible for daily technical management of a team of air quality modellers, environmentalists and ICT experts. As head of the technical team, he/she will be responsible for successful technical implementation of all secured contracts and projects, from cradle to grave. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager and the marketing team to help generate further sales and promote LIBOVITO to potential clients. This may involve giving technical workshops and presentations. Occasionally, visits to Belgium will be required for technical meetings with the VITO staff. As well as commercial contracts, LIBOVITO maybe involved in larger more research orientated projects. As this is currently a small team, the candidate will often be required to work closely with the technical team to develop and implement the tools, and also to provide hands-on training to the technical staff. The TM will also be required to provide support to the end users (e.g. local authorities) in the use and interpretation of the air modelling tools and results.

The successful candidate will be a multi-facade scientist with a strong track record in atmospheric modelling, monitoring or policy with a keen interest in helping this new business reach it’s commercial potential. During the first year, the successful candidate will be based in Belgium and ofern asked to travel in China.


Key Attributes/Skills
? Strong leadership skills, preferably with experience in managing technical projects and technical staff (experienced & non-experienced)
? A comprehensive knowledge of the development of atmospheric modelling techniques and/or the use of these tools in supporting air quality policy (in China)
? Good communication skills (verbal, written) with a keen interest in the commercial aspects of the business
? Good programming skills are required: knowledge of FORTRAN and MATLAB are considered a plus, as is basic working knowledge of the Linux operating system.
? Experience with statistical techniques such as regression analysis and geospatial interpolation.
? Anaytical thinker, Team player
? Languages: fluent in both Chinese and English (verbal, written)


Qualifications
Applicants should be a holder of at least a masters, preferably a PhD, in a related science or engineering discipline.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years research experience in the field of atmospheric modelling or at least environmental modeling.
List of recent Scientific Publications would be an advantage.
