Responsibilities:
Lean Coach: Job Description
Position description - Purpose
To lead Lean improvement projects for specific ventures in the SCEPCo organisation and support the local Lean deployment program while delivering improved results within a planned schedule
Specific Lean Leadership coaching and training is a key component of this role with the Lean Coach expected to co-ordinate Lean Practitioners in their delivery of both competency development and project execution.
The balance of delivery vs. coaching is in the order of 40% - 60% respectively.
Position description - Accountabilities
As Lean Coach you are expected to:
• Apply the Continuous Improvement / Lean methodology and recommend solutions to specific business case issues with the specific aim to deliver the improvement projects on schedule,with benefits realised and competency of Lean Practitioners raised and embedded.
• Work with key stakeholders to understand and clearly define their key requirements and targets (e.g.,50% reduction in cost,increase number of jobs completed per day from 1 to 5,reduce cycle time by 60% etc.)
• Oversee between,5 - 12 Lean Practitioners and their associated projects annually.
• Coach,advise,train,and participate in teams,ensuring compliance with group methods. This will include Kaizen workshops,facilitated sessions,and project co-ordination.
• Ensure structures for sustainability are implemented and used by all levels of the venture.
• Develop own and others Lean Leadership Behaviours and in doing so support and develop a sustainable continuous improvement culture.
• Facilitate teamwork and delivery (across the value streams).
• Continuously improve your skills with the aim to be a certified Lean Coach (Kaizen Facilitator and Black Belt equivalent) within 18 months (if not already certified).
• Support the Improvement agenda for SCEPCo. This includes understanding the current situation and future vision,establishing relevant benchmarks/metrics and framing improvement programs to close the gaps
• Coaching Lean champions and project managers with simple,practical approaches to deliver Lean and other Process Improvement and Cost Reduction programs.
• Provide ad hoc Program support.
• Help set Continuous Improvement / Lean goals for the ventures assigned and assist in leading the effort to achieve them.
Requirements:
Position description - Dimensions
Lean and Continuous Improvement projects will be executed throughout the entire SCEPCO organization. This could be plant specific issues or improvement projects related to a support / knowledge process.
Position description - Special Challenges
It will be your responsibility to ensure that the scope of Lean projects are carefully designed, you may need to carefully redefine the scope with the Process Owner(s) / and Lean Practitioners.
The projects then need to be completed in a timely manner following the methodology. Having got the improvement it is then the responsibility of the lean Coach to ensure that these changes are owned and kept in place by the local team and Process Owner.
The majority of your time will be required to be spent in the field to work with the teams making the improvements.
Experience and Qualifications required
Experience in an operating company is highly desirable and preferred.
• Demonstrated capability to apply Lean Philosophy and Tools in a manufacturing / operational (oil and gas) or similar environment.
• Practical Lean experience in applying process improvement and Lean tools (e.g. value stream mapping; 5S; identifying and eliminating waste, visual management problem solving etc).
• Effective Communication skills (presentation, effective conversations, written)
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Strong Facilitation skills (team work and team building)
• Accreditation as a Lean Black Belt and Kaizen Facilitation experience would be a significant plus, but not essential.
Key Competences required
Proficient at speaking both Mandarin and English (field work will predominantly be in Mandarin, while English is spoken in the office)
Excellent Communication Skills (Presentation; effective conversations and written)
Experience in Team Work, Team Building, and Facilitation particularly with people from different cultures, experience and backgrounds
Data Analysis Skills (Operational, Financial, Performance Metrics, etc.)
Excellent Computer Skills including SAP; Microsoft Office Suite Of Products, Internet, etc.
Good listening skills
good at prioritizing and time management
