Job Purpose and Background：

CDP China is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Consultant in Forest Program with skillsets in finance research, data analysis and report writing, as well as coordination, translation, and communications. He/she is expected to conduct research independently to investigate the finance flow of the palm oil supply chain in China and evaluate the exposure of deforestation risk to the financial institutions who are involved.

This can be an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in green finance, corporate sustainability, tropical deforestation issue and environmental reporting.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Identify the investors who are directly/indirectly financing the palm oil-related business.

Explore the linkage of the palm oil companies and their investors.

Research on key trends of green/sustainable finance and broader sustainability issues in China from policy and industrial perspective.

Research on the climate and deforestation implications for sustainable investment in palm oil value chain.

Conduct in-depth data analysis of environmental performance of selected companies in palm oil value chain

Coordinate with other researchers to secure the smooth progress of the project, achieve project objectives in high quality and meet deadlines of the project.

Complete a high-quality research report in both English and Chinese.

Required Skills and Experience:

Master’s degree majoring in finance, environment, or international trade areas with a minimum of 5 years’ full-time work experience in relevant fields.

Skillful in analyzing finance data and information and abstracting key information from corporate annual report.

Strong reach capacities in ESG relevant topics and familiar with multi-stakeholders in green finance area in China; previous policy research experience in finance and environmental protection area is preferred.

Outstanding communication ability to interpret complex analysis and argument in a concise and easy-to-follow manner in both Chinese and English

Proven experience in independent project work as well as coordinating with external partners; able to prioritize tasks and ensure the project deadlines are met.

Passionate about environmental and sustainable issues with a good level of self-motivation and drive.

Native Mandarin speaker with proficiency in English writing and communication.

Desirable Qualities:

Knowledge of palm oil market and policy is highly desirable.

Advanced in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; being familiar with financial database is a plus.

Well organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working, and get-the-job-done on time.

Working experience in financial sector; good relationship with the financial regulators, financial institutions, companies in the palm oil value chain is a plus.

Terms and Benefits：

The role will be a fixed short-term position based in Beijing office. This will be a 5-month (from 23 November 2020- 23 April 2021) service contract with a competitive salary. Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in China. Able to come to office twice a week and accessible with emails/Wechat during the working time.
