Search Platform Team

Search Engine is by far one of the most demanding distributed computation applications at the largest scale in the world. Search Platform Team’s mission is to provide the most scalable high performance, cost efficient, scalable, intelligent platform for Bing - the fastest growing search engine today. Those unique and profound challenges are the motivation for many world class engineering talents and computer scientists being our teammates. Working together with top computer scientists and researchers from Microsoft Research Asia and US driving our projects together with the platform team in the US, we continue revising the definition of technical limit and engineering excellence.



Some of the major challenges that Search Platform team is solving include:

- How to push index serving efficiency to the next level, so that Bing can provide the fastest and quality search results with the lowest cost?

- How to scale Bing index size capacity in order of magnitude, so that Bing becomes the most comprehensive search engine?

- How to support various machine learning/deep learning needs, and enhance rich ranking data model and ranking infrastructure capability, so that platform is more powerful and intelligent to enable game changing ideas and best search quality?

- How to evolve the search platform architecture under the context of search service trend, artificial intelligence innovation and computer hardware tendency, so that our system can sustain continuous development and long term success.



Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for motivated and talented individuals at various career stages of their careers, to build core index serving and ranking platform, large scale geo-distributed index serving and knowledge processing system to power core search quality and various Bing experiences both globally and in regional markets. As a Principal Development Engineer, you will play a critical role in the team. You will need to understand the design, code and features of many different areas, quickly come up to speed and deliver features that delight customers and partners via this intuitiveness, attention to detail and responsiveness. You must be able to design services that are highly scale, low latency, always on, low cost to maintain and operate. You should be able to influence other developers to come up with the right design and architecture for their components and make them the model for common patterns going forward. You must have good partnership and influencing skills to be able to work across multiple teams.

Requirements:

Pursuing a BS/MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field 8+ years of experience programming in C/C++/C#, Java, Python and/or other computer programming languages preferred Experience in information retrieval, data mining, machine learning, deep learning, classification or clustering is a big plus Ability to derive creative and innovative solutions by thinking "outside the box" Expertise in feature definition, design, and feasibility Demonstrated skill in estimating development time
