The Microsoft Garage is a community of people at Microsoft that embrace programs, offerings and facilities that drive hack culture, experiments and learning. Our employees and teams build small scale projects, conduct experiments, and have a variety of learning opportunities through The Garage. The Garage is hiring its first program manager to run the Garage communities and programs in Beijing, China. This position is responsible for establishing The Garage in China and connecting the work in The Garage with external communities, universities and industry. Responsibilities for this position include:



Engaging Our Workforce

Develop compelling programming for our employees in Beijing that drive a growth mindset, intellectual curiosity and new ways of problem solving. Building or curate offerings to drive networking, sharing and transparence. Be a key member of the Garage global network and join other leaders sharing best practices across Garage sites around the world. These sites include: Silicon Valley, Boston, Vancouver, Israel, and India. Coordinate with the Garage in Redmond, and the other Global Development Centers worldwide to re-use content and offerings.



Engaging Industry

Bring great outside perspective into the Beijing Garage for our employees. Find interesting and intriguing technology and projects that might be run by academia, partners, customer and competitors. Help create exposure and dialogs between Microsoft and emerging technologies to keep us aware of the cutting edge. Break with tradition and be creative in shaping how Microsoft participates in the local ecosystem. Taking your knowledge of Microsoft China engineering projects and internal culture to showcase the best of Microsoft to others in China.



Experimentation

Pick and lead 1 or 2 experimental projects to drive from The Garage. Capitalize on local talent and ecosystem to make a bet on a strategically interesting experiment.



Our candidate must have a proven track record building, producing and delivering impactful experiments and events. We are interested in a person with a strong external network in particular with the start-up, maker, and local communities based out of China. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning, technology - and experience running and participating in hackathons. We would like a candidate that has relationships with our partner and competitive companies and ideally academic relationships with local universities. Required Qualifications 5+ years i***olvement with outside grass-root initiatives in China 5+ years community management experience. Strong public speaking and event leadership experience with tools and equipment in maker labs.
