PURPOSE

The Associate Director, Immunoassay Operations is responsible for operational management, scientific leadership, and coordination of resources for the Immunoassay Services Laboratory. The Associate Director interacts with clients, Project Leaders/Managers, and other staff members to coordinate the execution of laboratory activities and related tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in development of strategies and priorities in the Immunoassay group.

Manage assigned resources by efficient project oversight and communication with staff members and clients.

Provide scientific guidance and feedback in the development of ligand binding assays.

Communicate workload priorities to assigned staff.

Assign personnel and equipment resources in coordination with other scientific managers.

May act as Project Manager (and/or Project Leader if required) for internal and external projects.

Evaluate performance of assigned staff and provide feedback on areas of potential improvement in quality and efficiency.

Act as scientific resource to include training, assisting in troubleshooting, and participation in scientific initiatives.

Represent Quintiles’s scientific strength at local and national conferences and meetings.

Participate in the evaluation and adaptation of new technologies.

Manage, review, and approve data for projects.

Work to further the scientific credibility and technical capabilities of Quintiles both internally and externally.

Support Human Resources policy and timely adherence to performance management guidelines for all assigned staff.

Uphold all safety standards, discipline guidelines and regulatory compliance requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Advanced knowledge of immunochemistry involved in ligand binding assays for bioanalysis

Highly experienced in quantitative immunoassay techniques such as are used for PK analysis, as well as semi-quantitative and qualitative or fit-for-purpose analyses.

Good mentoring skills and proven supervisory skills.

Well versed in all routine laboratory procedures.

Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

Thorough knowledge of GLP and other regulatory guidelines

Thorough understanding of current industry practice in area of ligand binding assays and other relevant areas

Ability to liaise well with clients

Ability to analyze method development data and provide guidance and feedback to staff members.

Ability to think creatively and analytically to solve method development challenges

Ability to perform or assist with data analysis and software management as required

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers and clients.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field with 10 years’ progressively responsible and relevant experience including experience in immunoassay development, validation and sample analysis; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a bioanalytical laboratory environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Extensive use of face-to-face communication and occasional telephone communication requiring accurate perception of speech.

Regular sitting for extended periods of time.
