Job Title: Assistant Sales Manager, Journal & Online Products,
Reporting to: Senior Sales Manager
Function: Journals
Overall Role Summary:
The incumbents are responsible for territory or channel revenue targets and roles can include leading and motivating sales teams, as well as collaborating with Editorial and Marketing departments, ensuring a well-coordinated team management approach.
Key Accountabilities
- Achieving and exceeding annual sales targets, contributing to the overall revenue and profit objectives of the business division
- Plans department resources and team structure, in conjunction with line manager
- Plans, schedules and carries out regular sales visits to customers to achieve financial targets within own sales region across product portfolio, customizing sales documentation and tools to maximize sales opportunities.
- Develop strong professional and industry stakeholder networks
- Cultivate strong, holistic relationships with the customer base, working to ensure that trading with each account is sustainable, profitable and delivering a high level of customer satisfaction
- Report periodically to the senior management on sales progress and the business environment, this ensuring responsiveness to both the micro and macro trading conditions.
- Selection and adaptation of sales materials and catalogues for regular customer visits, as well as the creation of titles lists and the provision of catalogues (both existing and bespoke) and additional materials for customers attending conferences/events.
- Conducting key analyses of products, customers, markets, and competitors. Develop and maintain knowledge of business and market trends. Identify areas of opportunity; offer suggestions and make recommendations for improvement to appropriate managers.
- Developing and maintain sales and profit margins by directing and coaching Sales Associates/Executives. Work with Sales Associates/Executives to set goals, devise sales strategies, provide feedback, and coach for high performance. Compile learning and development plans for staff; provide support and follow up.
Knowledge and Qualifications
- Experience 5 years of academic publishing
- Strong administrative skills
- Intermediate to advanced use of business systems
- Proficiency with Word, Power Point and Excel required
- Experience with CRM software
Skills and Behaviours Required
- Ability to manage people and take a customer-led view
- Strong organizational and project management skills, ability to multi-task
- Excellent written and verbal skills a must
- Strong presentation skills
