Overview:

The innovations have become integral parts of most Microsoft products, such as BING, Office, Windows, and Xbox. Innovation Engineering Group in Microsoft Research Asia is looking for a strong research program manager to take good research ideas, prototypes to the next level.

As the senior program manager, you will be responsible for the technology transfer program from MSR Beijing lab to all Microsoft product groups. MSR Asia has a wide range of research projects, you will have a very broad scope in terms of technology areas and targeted product groups.

At its core, you will have a solid understanding of all MSR Asia research projects, be able to represent the lab to all MS product groups. You will drive technology transfer projects and work closely with researchers, MSR SDEs and product teams. You need to define how new technology can help product lines, understand requirements and constraints, and deliver results. You will work with senior leadership to come up with new strategies, to coordinate our resources for maximizing impact as we have large amount of technology and limited resources.

When working with product teams, you will gain market and product intelligence on what matters to our company and what problems we can tackle. You will use this information to influence our research directions in a positive way.

An ideal candidate must be an experienced program manager who has shipped several commercial grade software releases, including boxed products and online services. You should have exceptional problem solving ability, strong technical background, and can come up-to-speed quickly on new technical domains. You will need to effectively work with both internal (research) and external partner (product) teams and dependencies, to find win-win solutions that are mutually beneficial. Because working on new research grounds and new products, you are in uncharted territories often. You need the ability to deal with ambiguity. Qualifications:

- 8+ years’ experience in program and project management, including experience writing specifications

- Broad and deep experience with existing Microsoft technologies, product life cycle and development methodology

- Managed cross discipline teams, responsible for shipping several commercial product releases, in both boxed software and web services

- Passionate about new technology, research, and their application to Microsoft product lines

- Demonstrated technical and strategic thought leadership. Ability to think strategically about the future of evolving technologies and to develop and execute disciplined programs to advance goals.

- Strong relationship building skills and ability to work with internal researchers and product groups to build consensus across Microsoft

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confident communicator effective at senior levels of engagement

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field required. Advanced degrees are a plus
