About the role

Development and Technology (D&T) is a department within Rio Tinto that brings several teams together under the leadership of the Chief Technical Officer. D&T’s focus is on excelling in development, accelerating growth, and driving the development and delivery of technology to enable decarbonization, safety, growth, ESG, and productivity advances.

Rio Tinto Projects is a team within Development and Technology that is responsible for major project delivery in the Group. The team collaborates across the business to safely and efficiently deliver major capital studies and projects (>USD250 million) . With proven industry-leading performance, they continuously strive to improve project performance to create pathways for Rio Tinto’s growth.

The New Growth team is a part of the Rio Tinto Projects team that focuses on the initial stages of project development. This team works globally with existing businesses, Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX), and Mergers and Acquisitions teams as the initial conduit for the Projects organization. The team has a strong emphasis on competitive advantage, stakeholder, and organizational alignment, and works with agility and speed to set the growth pipeline up for success from the start.

The Studies Business Analytics Lead in China would be responsible for overseeing and coordinating components of our studies and research projects within China on behalf of the project leader. This would involve working with local teams and stakeholders to identify and evaluate project strategies and initiatives and market opportunities to deliver potential business value. This The role would require strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of the local market and business environment.

Recognised as an expert in identifying, reviewing, and evaluating opportunities for the Studies team, the Studies Business Analytics Lead will support the broader Rio Projects team in analysing market and investment opportunities to ensure informed decisions are made. Reporting to the General Manager New Growth, you will:

? Engage with internal and external stakeholders in identifying and evaluating project strategic initiatives in accordance with business requirements.
? Develop and manage contractor/consultant relationships, including introducing project teams and facilitating initial engagements for projects.
? Look for solutions to issues around competitive advantage and how RT adds value to a business, and use these insights create the first business case for a project.
? Develop and manage scopes of work being undertaken by local contractors to ensure delivery according to project needs.
? Ensuring that all studies and research projects are conducted in accordance with host country regulations and company policies.
? Contribute to financial modelling activities to support business cases and opportunities in accordance with Project on milestones.
? Supports Senior Management in negotiating and navigating Project requirements.
? Directly engaging with Project Services and Rio Tinto Procurement to support Project Management.
? Develop and manage relationships between projects.
? Be available for internal reviews of projects to support learning amongst our teams.
About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
? Work experience in mining industry desirable
? Work Experience in major Project or studies desirable
? Minimum 7-8 Years project management experience.
? Strong analysis experience in diversified commodity is preferred.
